The World After: Conversation Pieces: When the Swallows Fly Low

For The World After, artist Yaïr Callender pondered the following question: Do you also experience two different sides to the lockdown?

‘I see beauty in isolation. The world has pushed the pause button. People are forced to depend on their own resources, loved ones and immediate neighbours. But isolation is not pleasant for everyone. I was thinking about a friend of mine, she struggled with isolation in the shape of loneliness for a long time. In the end, it killed her. In the video I made, I searched for this ambivalence. There’s a certain simplicity and austerity in the folding of origami birds. It envelops the staying at home, the being alone and the world that has temporarily been put on hold. But also hope for the world after.’
