In this portable lantern burnt a candle that could be lit via a little door. A ventilation cap and handle is affixed to the top of the lantern. The lantern was found in a cupboard in the former Church Warden's Office, nowadays the Board Room, which was constructed next to the Lady Chapel in 1571. Amsterdam’s church council gathered here until 1649.
