Lion Sculpture

This fifteenth-century sandstone sculpture stands in the Church Warden’s Office. Traces of paint suggest the sculpture was once multicoloured. Although the head is missing, the legs and the curled tail clearly indicate this is a lion lying down. This may be an allusion to the Lion of Holland featured in many coats-of-arms.
