The first window on the north side of the Mariakapel depicts two important scenes from Mary's life: the Annunciation - the moment when the birth of Jesus is announced to Mary by Archangel Gabriel - and the Visitation - Mary's visit to her cousin Elizabeth, who is pregnant with John the Baptist at the time. The representations are set in a grand architectural setting with columns, pillars and cornices spanned by a vaulted ceiling.
