Left lying on the ground, the coats marked the human body that once they wrapped. The pleats, wear sites and other traces of use were subtle hints of its owners identity. A history could be read in each coat. Altogether, the coats were a symbol of a collective past, while each coat told an individual story. The coats marked a unit between physical and historical disappearance.

Based on earlier work from 1987, re-installed in Oude Kerk.
