'Statenbijbels' are Bibles written in Dutch that were commissioned by the States-General. The translation into the vernacular meant that everyone was able to study Holy Scripture independently. A member of the States-General signed an ‘Acte van Consent’, thus guaranteeing that it was an authorized translation.
