This evening, we took advantage of the otherworldly location created by Taturo Atzu to view the sky from a vantage point dating back to the 17th century, delving deeper into the meaning of an infinite universe and the relationship between time and space. Astrophysicist Sera Markoff (affiliated with Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy, UvA) gave a scientific lecture, she specialises in black holes. Beforehand, the short film 'Powers of Ten' by Charles and Ray Eames was shown (9 min, 1977) which zooms in and out; to the universe and back again to the smallest human cells. In cloudy or light rain conditions, the lecture and Q&A will go ahead, in which case prepare with a mackintosh or umbrella.
