Sonsbeeck Sarah van

Sarah van Sonsbeeck (NL, 1976) studied architecture at TU Delft (MA) and did a bachelor's degree in visual art at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. From 2008 to 2009, she was one of the residents of the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.

Her work is double-sided: on the one hand, she tries to define, defend and expand private space; on the other, she simultaneously reveals the impossibility and perhaps even the undesirability of being completely cut off from the world. Intrigued by the saying: speaking is silver, silence is gold, Van Sonsbeeck initially focused on the concept of silence and, using this as a basis, she tried to define, defend and extend the concept of private space. Why is silence better than sound or gold good?
