Into the Air: The Vanishing of the Artist

High above the tumult of the city, on the zinc eaves of the Oude Kerk, was a pair of shoes. They are the artist's shoes. To the naked eye it may have looked like a pair of birds but aided by the binoculars in the Sacristy's garden you unmistakably saw two colourful shoes. Did the artist fly away? Did he jump? The shoes on the eaves were funny too. The binoculars in the garden were precisely at this place as a nod to the overcrowded ramparts area that is almost in danger of being destroyed by the 12 million visitors a year who walk around the church, in search of stereotype images of a bygone time.
